Tottenham Hotspur get linked to what feels like every single player under the sun. The media loves touting who the next man to work under Mauricio Pochettino will be, and more often than not it’s rubbish. This time, though, it’s pretty clear this deal won’t happen, as Marca, via Sports Witness, have claimed that Spurs have had made an approach for Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio.

The Marca report does claim that the approach from Daniel Levy has been rejected by Real Madrid, and that’s little surprise. Considering the financial implications that the new stadium has imposed on the club, to see the news that they’re sniffing around players like Asensio, who has an £81-million valuation according to Transfermarkt, is simply ludicrous. If the Lilywhites do make a signing, it will likely be a much cheaper one based closer to home.
It’s no secret that Levy and Mauricio Pochettino are looking to bolster their ranks when it comes to homegrown players, and links to players like Jack Grealish, who’s Tottenham move spectacularly fell through over the summer, are much more realistic. However, that doesn’t mean the Lilywhites wouldn’t love to see their club go big on an Asensio type player. The Spaniard would be a huge coup for any team on the planet, and that’s exactly why the fans believe that even if Los Blancos hadn’t rejected their approach, they wouldn’t be signing the 22-year-old.

The Lilywhites have no faith in their side to sign an Asensio-type and they’ll all hope that they can at least bring in someone over the winter window.
