Yesterday evening, a lot of Tottenham fans were in shock as they saw the news that Vincent Janssen was playing football in a Spurs shirt again. It was only U23’s football, but it was still a competitive fixture for the Dutchman. Janssen played just 45 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Liverpool’s U23s, but he has to start somewhere.

The 24-year-old striker has endured something of a horror spell at Tottenham. He signed for the club in the summer of 2016 ahead of the 2016/17 season and whilst their were high hopes for the young Dutchman, who had just bagged 27 goals in 34 games in the Eredivisie for AZ Alkmaar. Unfortunately, that form couldn’t be carried over to the Premier League, though, as Janssen netted just six times in 38 appearances.
It does look like Janssen is just playing for fitness and he’ll be sold this month, but whilst he’s playing U23’s football and getting game time then he can still try and impress the management into giving him one last senior chance this month, especially seeing as they now have an FA Cup tie against Crystal Palace at the end of the month that could see a lethal strike partnership of Janssen and Fernando Llorente feature.
