Normally, when Mauricio Pochettino looks to his bench and opts to bring on Fernando Llorente, the Spurs fans know that the game is near enough over. However, yesterday against PSV as The Lilywhites were 1-0 down with 15 minutes to play, Llorente was brought on and his impact changed the game as Poch’s side went on to win 2-1.

In truth, the fact that Tottenham only scraped past a poor PSV side is more than a little bit embarrassing. The Dutch outfit took the lead inside one minute through a Luuk de Jong header from a corner and whilst the immediate response to the goal was positive for Tottenham, they lacked a cutting edge in front of goal until Llorente was brought into the game to provide the killer assist for Harry Kane’s first of the night.
Now, Tottenham have a sniff of qualifying from their group even if it is unlikely. They’ll need to beat Inter Milan at Wembley at the end of the month by more than one goal and then will need to either match or better the Italian outfits result on matchday six, which will be a tough ask considering Inter have PSV at home whilst Tottenham travel to The Nou Camp. However, if Fernando Llorente is on top form and can keep his impact from the bench as sharp as it was last night then who knows what might happen.
