Tottenham Hotspur are a big club who have been lucky enough to employ some wonderful players over their history. Gary Mabbutt, whilst he may not have been the flashiest, is definitely one of those as he made well over 500 appearances for the club and captained them for 11 years.

Tottenham's official Twitter account posted a special tweet yesterday as they shared a link to the Tottenham website where Mabbutt looked back over his career in pictures. The legendary defender helped Tottenham to win the 1984 UEFA Cup among other things and he will always be remembered for being a thoroughly nice bloke off the pitch, as well as a Tottenham hero on it.

A lot of fans of this generation won't know who Mabbutt is but with his work as a club ambassador going on behind the scenes, it's nice for the supporters to know that Mabbs is still at the club and is still helping them to achieve everything possible on and off the pitch. If any of the current squad could match even half of Mabbutt's legacy at Tottenham then they'll have done a fine job and the fans would love to have a player of his ilk.
