Tottenham fans on Twitter simply could not believe their weak lineup

Tottenham fans on Twitter were left fuming with their awful starting eleven against Crystal Palace yesterday. The Lilywhites were far from happy to see the changes that Mauricio Pochettino made from their defeat at Chelsea and wouldn’t have been at all surprised when they fell to a 2-0 defeat, bailing out of the competition.

The Lilywhites would have loved to have gone through at the expense of the Palace, but given their current situation, it looks like a cup run could have only crippled them further. Pochettino went into the game knowing that he had to rest players, and with Harry Kane, Dele Alli. Heung-Min Son, Ben Davies and Moussa Sissoko unavailable, what choice did he have with his lineup.

Whilst his side may have fallen to a 2-0 defeat, Pochettino was able to rest Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Harry Winks, whilst he also managed to restrict both Erik Lamela and Jan Vertonghen to 45 minutes each. The performance was lacking and the team was poor, but when the fixture congestion is what it is, the fans need to be realistic and understand Pochettino is doing what he can was a thin squad.

The Lilywhites could not believe it when they saw how weak their lineup was, however, they now have fewer games to worry about and will hope they can make the rest time count.
