Tottenham fans have been waiting a very long time to see what they saw last night. Not a Christian Eriksen thunder-strike, not a win, not a clean-sheet. A Vincent Janssen appearance. The Dutch striker last played for the club in a 2-1 home loss against Chelsea in August 2017, and 20 months later he made his Tottenham return last night.
80 – Welcome back, Vincent.

Tottenham fans have got a strange fixation with the Dutch striker. The 24-year-old has pretty much had his career single-handedly derailed by Mauricio Pochettino and a move to North London, yet they’re desperate to see the Dutchman succeed. A four-year deal was struck for the striker when he moved to Tottenham for £17 million from AZ Alkmaar in summer 2016 and it really hasn’t gone to plan.
The Lilywhites will be wishing that the striker could have done more for the club in his early days, but they’ll just be delighted to see him getting minutes now. Pochettino has been very dismissive over the striker and his future chances at the club when asked in the past, but yesterday was needs must as he came off the bench in search of a winner, and whilst Janssen didn’t get the winner, he was on the pitch when Christian Eriksen did.

The Lilywhites want nothing more than to see Janssen integrated back into their side, and last night will have gone a long way to helping him do that.
