Tottenham fans on Twitter were raving over having Vertonghen and Alderweireld together again

In truth, it was never going to be in doubt for Tottenham last night. The fans were treated to having centre-back partnership of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen for the first time since September and the Belgian duo did what they do, keeping a clean sheet during a huge win.
What an absolute joy it was to see Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertoghen re-united in the heart of the Tottenham Hotspur defence.
Incredible to think Jan has just returned from a six week lay-off based on the way he played throughout the match.#THFC #COYSpic.twitter.com/Y1n3d2U6gu

Mauricio Pochettin’s side snuck past Inter Milan, winning 1-0 at Wembley thanks to Christian Eriksen’s strike off the bench. It was one of those games where it may have been 1-0, but it certainly wasn’t a close 1-0. Luciano Spalletti’s side came to Wembley with the sole aim of not conceding a goal and, in fairness to the Italian outfit, they defended heroically for 80 minutes and when Poch’s men broke the deadlock they looked defeated.
The result now means that Tottenham’s Champions League fate is in their own hands. They now face a trip to the Nou Camp and will need to match Inter Milan’s result in the final group match if they want to qualify. However, with Vertonghen and Alderweireld at the back, anything is possible and the supporters will be confident that they can nick an unlikely win away in Barcelona to proceed to the Champions League last 16 with a win.

you could see how calm it was back there tonight..ok admittedly Inter never really threatened but you saw how compact and disciplined also some great blocks from corners too

Look, I don’t mean to minimize how well Sanchez has adjusted to the PL, but these two are a class above. Critical that we manage to keep them beyond this season.

The Lilywhites love their centre-backs and will be desperate to see them both stay fit and avoid injury for the rest of the season.
