The name ‘Bruno Fernandes’ filled newspaper headlines throughout this summer’s transfer window, but ultimately he remained a Sporting CP player upon the closure of the market on Monday.
Now, the real reason why Spurs failed in their quest to prize Fernandes away from the José Alvalade Stadium has come to light.
As reported by Metro, the north Londoners allegedly offered Sporting €45m for the midfielder, plus another €20m (roughly £58.2m in total) should the club win either the Premier League or Champions League this season.
The Portuguese titans were unconvinced in Spurs’ ability to win either of those competitions, however, even though Mauricio Pochettino’s men did reach the final of the latter last term, so he rejected the English side’s offer.
On Wednesday, Spurs fan account @Daily_Hotspur tweeted the news, and some of the replies from Tottenham supporters were quite amusing…
So in others words just a €45m bid..

Or €45M, as it’s also known.

They were never getting that 20 million then

We managed to make a bid but also look like we didn’t want to bid at the same time! Nothing has changed….

No wonder they rejected it. It probably took them a while to stop laughing after hearing about the terms of the add on’s.
