Tottenham fans take to Twitter as Lamela misses spot in Argentina squad

It was only a few months back where Mauricio Pochettino was lauding a ‘hat-trick’ of his players being called up to his native Argentina’s national team. However, this time around the Lilywhites are celebrating just a single La Albiceleste star in their ranks in Juan Foyth and the fans haven’t taken long to notice that Lamela has dropped out.

In fairness to the Tottenham Hotspur Argentine trio, Lamela is the most senior of them. The winger has 24 caps for his nation and three goals for them. Then there’s the Lilywhites’ second choice shot-stopper Paulo Gazzaniga, who was always going to be dropped behind the likes of Sergio Romero and Geronimo Rulli when they returned to fitness.
The one that has hit hard is Lamela, though. Granted, his form has been a long way off a player who should be getting into the Argentine squad, but given some of the quality of players in Lionel Scaloni’s side, Lamela was always going to be in with a shout. The recently returned Manuel Lamzini has made the cut, so to see the Lilywhites versatile attacker fail to make is a strange one, even if he hasn’t scored since 3rd November.

Lamela hasn’t been playing that well for a National call.

You do have to wonder what @ErikLamela has to do.
Or did.#COYS

The Lilywhites would have loved seeing Lamela play for his country, but if his form doesn’t warrant a call then there’s little that they can do.
