Tottenham fans took to Twitter to lambaste Trippier for woeful penalty miss

Tottenham fans tuned in to watch their side in the FA Cup fourth round yesterday thinking that they’d be able to brush aside Crystal Palace with relative ease yesterday. However, with their side 2-0 down and approaching half-time, Kieran Trippier spurned their best chance of the game as he fired a penalty wide at a crucial point in the game.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were awarded a spot-kick after a spell of pressure saw Juan Foyth chase after a Fernando Llorente flick-on just to be booted down by Patrick Van Aanholt. It was as stone wall as penalties come, just as the one that Palace were awarded up the other end when Kyle Walker-Peters decided to punch the ball away from the lurking Connor Wickham in the box.

Trippier’s penalty heartache came just days after the Lilywhites had failed to overcome Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on penalties. Trippier wasn’t on the pitch when that shootout took place, yet it was still a surprise to see the right-back lining up to take one. The fans couldn’t work out why Fernando Llorente hadn’t stepped up and Trippier’s miss has just piled more pressure on the already under-fire star.

You can read the Lilywhites’ verdict on Trippier’s awful miss here:

The Lilywhites will be hoping Trippier’s dropped when they host Watford on Wednesday and they can’t face the idea of seeing him back out on the pitch after his form over the last couple of months.
