Hugo Lloris has had a very up and down 2018. The Frenchman won the World Cup with France but committed a huge blunder in the final. Then when returning to his club he was arrested for drink driving and hit with a hefty fine and a driving ban. However, he looks to be putting that behind him for a better 2019, and his performance last night mirrored that.

On the surface it will look like Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Southampton was an easy game that the Lilywhites cruised through. However, when you look a bit deeper, the Saints hit the woodwork three times and worked Lloris to the point where the Frenchman was named as the man of the match for his contributions, so it was far from a walk in the park for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
With that being said, there were some standout moments from the Lilywhites. Harry Kane and Lucas Moura both scored poachers efforts from well worked Tottenham corners and Heung-Min Son’s strike on the counter-attack was a well rounded off team goal. However, it was a little bit nervy when the Saints started piling on the pressure, and you can’t say they didn’t deserve their late consolation goal, even if Lloris did deserve a clean sheet for his performance.
