Tottenham fans took to Twitter yesterday to question bizarre switch of left-backs

Yesterday, after Lucas Torreira made it 4-2 to Arsenal, it seemed that every Tottenham fan knew it was well and truly over. Mauricio Pochettino, however, had one last throw of the dice as he brought on all three of his subs within three minutes of each other, but it was his final change, Danny Rose on for Ben Davies, that simply didn’t make sense to the fans.

Considering that Ben Davies had been used against both Chelsea at Wembley last Saturday and against Inter Milan in the week, a lot of fans would have rather seen the returning Rose thrust in from the start yesterday. However, that doesn’t mean they were delighted to see him brought on with less than ten minutes to play as they chased a two-goal deficit. It truly was a baffling decision from Poch, but it likely says more about his options from the bench.

Before opting to make a straight swap between his two left-backs, the Argentine had brought on both Harry Winks and Lucas Moura, and they were changes that should have been made 20 minutes earlier. Once again, the Lilywhites’ gaffer came in for criticism for leaving his changes so late and preventing his subs from having any kind of impact in a game where they could have been so pivotal, especially seeing as Unai Emery made his at the break and swung the balance of the tie.

You can read the Spurs fans’ thoughts on their pointless final change here:

The Lilywhites were frustrated and bewildered to see Rose coming on for Davies and will just hope that Poch learns from his godawful changes when they next face a tough test like yesterday.
