Tottenham supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are still waxing lyrical about the stunning performance of their boy Andros Townsend for England last night.
Now regular in the bar Jamie Sanderson has arrived with breaking news about another possible arrival at White Hart Lane.
The Metro journalist suggests that Spurs could beat a host of other European sides to land Japanese star Keisuke Honda in January with the midfielder available on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old, whose contract with CSKA Moscow expires at the end of the year, has become a target for a variety of clubs with Liverpool, AC Milan, Monaco and Juventus all interested in the attacker.
However it now appears that Andre Villas-Boas is ready to bring in the exciting Japan international for free in January. Honda is capable of playing in attack or on the wing and is well regarded for his pace plus an explosive left footed finish.
He has revealed earlier this week that he was considering a few offers and was planning to make a decision soon.
“I have a number of options – when the time comes I will make a decision,” Honda said.
“I have now decided I will leave my club at the expiry of the contract, everything else will be decided soon.”
Honda currently earns around £70,000-a-week in Russia, but Spurs will offer a lucrative wage to complete the deal with Villas-Boas searching for more attackers as he looks to mount a real challenge for the Premier League this season.
