Tottenham fear Jan Vertonghen could be out for two months

Tottenham Hotspur may have been rocked with a further setback with fears that they could be without a key man for a significant period of time.

The Daily Mirror are reporting that Spurs are fearing they could be without Jan Vertonghen for more than two months.

The Belgium international was expected to miss around four to six weeks with a hamstring injury he picked up during their victory against Huddersfield Town.

However, there are now concerns from the club that he could be sidelined for longer and are not confident he will be able to see out the rest of their Champions League group campaign.

Vertonghen is expected to undergo a scan later this week to reveal the true extent of the injury and Tottenham will be hoping it is not as serious as they first feared.

The Verdict:

Although the defender’s absence was not felt at the weekend against Cardiff City, Spurs will not want to be without him for too long.

Vertonghen has been a key player for the club during his time in north London and with the run of games they have, Mauricio Pochettino will be desperate to have him back in the side.

Tottenham still have four games to go in their efforts to qualify for the next round of the Champions League, and with two defeats already, they will need the Belgium international at the back to have a better chance of progressing.
