Pint glasses are clinked together in celebration and cheers are heard across the Football Transfer Tavern after Tottenham Hotspur confirm the signing of FC Twente winger Nacer Chadli for a reported £6 million.
According to Mail Online, the Belgian international winger will now undergo a medical with the North London side before flying out to Hong Kong in order to join his new team-mates for pre-season training.
A Tottenham statement on their official website read: “We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with FC Twente for the transfer of Nacer Chadli.
“Subject to personal terms and medical, the Belgian international winger will join up with the squad for pre-season training in Hong Kong.”
“The 23-year-old, who has been capped on 14 occasions by his country, joined FC Twente from Apeldoorn in 2010 and went on to make 106 appearances for the Dutch side, scoring 31 goals,”
Chadli possess the ability to play on either flank and it is this versatility which has appealed to Andre Villas-Boas as he looks to offer further width to the side that missed out to Arsenal for the final Champions League qualification place last season. This will give the Portuguese boss an opportunity to play Welsh ace Gareth Bale in his preferred free-role for the new campaign.
He will become the third Belgian at White Hart Lane, alongside fellow countrymen Mousa Dembele and Jan Vertonghen while he becomes the club’s second summer signing after Paulinho joined in a £17 million deal earlier in the transfer window.
