Blimey, give me a minute to catch my breath.
Right, it all just kicked off here, in the Football Transfer Tavern; Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian entered with the news that Tottenham Hotspur have accused Chelsea of having a vendetta against them.
The Chelsea fans and Tottenham fans clashed over this and a few peanuts were thrown, if I’m honest it was just ‘handbags’ but it could become more later in the season, if Willian scores against Spurs.
The North London club felt that had all but secured the Brazilian’s signature from Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala but Roman Abramovich & Co made a late move for the former Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker; probably while Tottenham were playing in the Europa League chuckles an Arsenal fan (who quickly left when he realised he hadn’t said that as quietly as he intended).
The ‘bad blood’ between the Premier League rivals, Jacob told us, stems back to two seasons ago when Daniel Levy refused to sell Luka Modric to Chelsea, despite the midfielder’s desire to go and Chelsea making a £40 million bid.
Coupled with the Modric saga, Jacob also told the punters that there is friction between Villas-Boas and his former mentor, Mourinho with the Spurs manager feeling that the former Real Madrid, Inter Milan and FC Porto gaffer has only moved for Willian to spite him.
Jeez, the atmosphere is tense in the tavern today, so I better keep a closer eye on things but don’t worry, I will keep you posted.
Tottenham fans. How disgusted are you with Chelsea swooping in and hijacking the Willian bid? Let us know your thoughts below.
