Tottenham given green light to pursue £15m switch

Netherlands v Chile - FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 - Group B

Tottenham fans are eagerly awaiting word of some new arrivals in the Football Transfer Tavern and sources at The Express have some positive news.

The publication claims that PSV Eindhoven are ready to listen to offers for Dutch World Cup star Memphis Depay in order to fund a move for Porto midfielder Steven Defour.

Twenty-year-old Depay was one of the stars of the Netherlands’ World Cup campaign, scoring twice en-route to a third-placed finish.

Tottenham are reportedly lining up a £15 million bid for the winger, who despite being told by Louis van Gaal to continue his development at PSV for at least one more season, says he would be open to a move to the right club.

Earlier this month Depay said: “I am enjoying myself at PSV, but if nice clubs from big leagues make an approach, I will of course think about it.

“There is plenty of interest, but staying at PSV is definitely an option.

“I understand that the fans wants me to play well this season in Eindhoven.

“I see so many kids with my name on their shirt. I’m proud of that but I’m the one who decides how my career looks and no one else.”
