Tottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are delighted after hearing via The Express that they have joined Chelsea and Liverpool in the race to sign Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi – tipped to be the ‘next Cristiano Ronaldo’.
The Argentine international will cost a suggested £28 million and the North London club fancy their chances of landing the 21-year-old forward.
However, punters don’t share as much positivity because they believe they will not be able to beat off stiff competition for his signature with Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Liverpool all keen on signing him too.
One plus point for Spurs is that they did nurture and develop Gareth Bale into the most expensive footballer in the world but punters agree this is not enough to tempt him into a move to White Hart Lane.
Inter have accepted that they are going to lose their star man and would prefer to get this transfer saga over and done with.
The Nerazzurri – now managed by Roberto Mancini once again – are reportedly willing to accept a suitable fee which would then be reinvested.
It would take some replacement to truly make up for Icardi’s potential loss with the Argentine already chipping in with a phenomenal 18 goals in Serie A this season.
