The Football Transfer Tavern is rather quiet this evening but things have livened up after speculation arrives from the The Mirror that Tottenham could be ready to challenge Liverpool to one of their major transfer targets.
The paper suggests that Spurs will increase their efforts to sign Yevhen Konoplyanka after being left impressed with the Dnipro winger during Tottenham’s defeat in Ukraine on Thursday evening.
Konoplyanka was outstanding during his side’s 1-0 victory over the Lilywhites and will be given another chance to impress in the Europa League second leg this week.
Now the White Hart Lane outfit are reportedly ready to fend off strong competition from Liverpool to land the left winger, who scored a wonder goal against England in a World Cup qualifier in 2012.
The Ukrainian international came very close to making the move to the Premier League with Liverpool but his proposed deadline day deal switch to Anfield collapsed at the eleventh hour.
It was thought that the Reds would be in pole position to sign the 24-year-old with a fee of around £15 million likely but now interest from White Hart Lane could spell trouble.
Chairman Daniel Levy knows a left winger is a priority with Nacer Chadli having struggled to establish himself this season, and that could see a fierce transfer battle on the way in the summer.
