Tottenham Hotspur: AC Milan considering move for Serge Aurier

Tottenham Hotspur’s Serge Aurier is thought to be a possible transfer target for AC Milan this summer, according to a report by Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness).

Premiership Picks

The Italian giants are believed to be in the market for a new right-back and the Ivory Coast international’s name is understood to have come up in discussions.

Aurier’s future at Spurs has been up for debate this summer and it has been claimed that he has told his team-mates in north London that he wants to leave the Premier League outfit in search of regular first-team football (Daily Mail).

Aurier’s future at Spurs appears to be rather bleak at the moment, even following the departure of Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid.

The Ivorian is yet to make an appearance for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and did not even make the matchday squad for their trip to Manchester City last weekend, with the manager seemingly appearing to favour Kyle Walker-Peters in the position.

In fact, the £16.2m-rated defender (Transfermarkt) has not featured for the north London outfit since their Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund at the beginning of March.

However, Tottenham would surely be taking a huge risk if they were to let the 26-year-old leave the club this summer.

Walker-Peters is the only other recognised right-back in the senior side (Transfermarkt), whilst Juan Foyth – who has been slowly adapting his game to play out wide – is currently out on the sidelines and is not expected to return to action until September (club’s official website).

With the 22-year-old having only played 21 competitive matches for Spurs, keeping Aurier around could be necessary for the Premier League outfit as he has the experience and knowledge that they may need in the later stages of the campaign – as well as in the upcoming Champions League competition.

With a couple of weeks until the transfer deadline closes across European football, there will likely be movements on this story, especially if the reports suggesting Aurier has told his team-mates that he wants to leave have truth to them.

Whether Pochettino is happy to have just Walker-Peters and Foyth as his options at right-back remains to be seen but, perhaps, the fact that the Ivorian was not even named as a substitute for their away encounter with Manchester City is a clear indication that he will not be too disappointed to see the 26-year-old depart.
