Tottenham Hotspur are set to make a fresh attempt to try and convince Christian Eriksen to sign a new contract, according to a report by FC Inter News.
It is claimed that Spurs will offer the Denmark international a five-year deal worth around €7.5m (£6.7m) a year.
However, it is also suggested that Tottenham could look to still sell Eriksen on if they were to tie his future down, with the likes of Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Juventus, whilst both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid were said to be interested over the summer.
Eriksen’s future in north London has been a huge topic of debate for those at Tottenham this summer and it does not appear as though it will be ending any time soon.
Daniel Levy and the player’s agent reportedly fell out over discussions regarding a new deal last month and the playmaker has since revealed that he did not feel he was at fault for looking to push a move away from Spurs in search of a new challenge.
There is no denying how important the 27-year-old has been to Mauricio Pochettino’s side over the years, as his 66 goals and 86 assists to his 280 appearances attest to how significant he is to them.
However, it sounds as though Tottenham are essentially trying to protect themselves from losing the Scandinavian on a free transfer instead of receiving a reasonable figure.
With the alleged interest from some of Europe’s top clubs – which is hardly surprising – Tottenham’s efforts to convince Eriksen into signing a new deal could still be in vain.
Obviously, it is not a surprise that Spurs are prepared to offer him a new deal to potentially protect themselves, but after what the playmaker has said in recent media interviews, it will be difficult to see a positive outcome being made.
