Tottenham Hotspur are tracking highly-rated Trabzonspor ‘keeper Ugurcan Cakir, according to 61 Saat.
Spurs started watching the player after he broke into the Turkish national team earlier this year, and will continue to monitor him throughout the remainder of the season.
The Lilywhites aren’t the only English club interested in signing the 23-year-old, with Liverpool, Newcastle United and Arsenal also thought to be following him.
After signing a contract with Europa League side Trabzonspor last season, Cakir is contracted at the club until June 2024.
The 23-year-old was in brilliant form for the Turkish club last season, keeping five clean sheets in his 20 appearances. His performances helped the side to European qualification and a fourth-place finish, with the club eventually reaching the Europa League group stage for the first time since 2014 (via I News).
In terms of individual performances, Cakir was in brilliant form against Turkish giants Fenerbahce earlier this season, making eight saves in a 1-1 draw.
Cakir has received praise from former Trabzonspor manager and youth coach Sadi Tekelioglu, who said the player would suit the Premier League.
He said: “I think that the player who will bring the biggest money to Trabzonspor is Ugurcan… he will be the most expensive player to go abroad from Turkey. I think he would suit the Premier League.” (Source: I News)
With Hugo Lloris the wrong side of 30, Spurs will need a long-term option in goal, and Cakir could be the player to provide that at 23 years of age. And with a reported price tag of just £14m (Star TV via I News), he would be a cheap signing for the club. Further strong performances from now until the end of the season could see the Turk get a move to England.
