Tottenham Hotspur defender attracting Spanish interest

fazio4Our resident Spurs fans who are enjoying a pint in the Tavern after their 2-0 win over Leicester in their FA Cup replay will have further cause for celebration after hearing that flop Federico Fazio could be set to leave the club.

Spanish publication Superdeporte claims that Valencia manager and former Manchester United star Gary Neville is looking to bolster his defence this month and has the Argentine centre-back on his radar.

Fazio have been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane in recent months after falling down the pecking order, with the 28-year old having only managed a single appearance this term.

Fazio joined Spurs for £8 million back in 2014 from Spanish outfit Sevilla and their president Pepe Castro recently revealed to Radio Sevilla that the Europa League holders are interested in re-signing the defender.

“We are working on a number of options and Fazio is one of them. He is an option but nothing has been completed yet.”

However, reports indicated that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy rejected their initial advances as he was not keen on the proposal of a loan deal with the option to buy in the summer and would prefer to sell the player outright.

But Spurs fans will be happy to hear that Super Deporte have reported Sevilla’s La Liga rivals Valencia are also considering a move to bring Fazio back to Spain and claim that they are looking to take advantage of Fazio’s situation at White Hart Lane in order to acquire his services for around €7 million.

Neville is yet to win a league game in La Liga after he took charge at Valencia in December 2015 and his side are currently 11th in the table.

Reports indicate that Neville recently met with sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch regarding how to fix the situation in the current transfer window, with the signing of a centre-back identified as a priority.

Spurs fans, would you be happy to see Fazio leave your club? Let us know in the comments below!
