Tottenham Hotspur fans want the club to get rid of Jan Vertonghen after reports emerged stating the club’s intentions over a potential January sale.
Do you trust Daniel Levy to fund an overhaul at Tottenham?
According to The Guardian, Spurs have told Internazionale that they will not sell the Belgium international in the winter window as they look to offer him a new contract.
However, the Italian club still holds some hope that the former Ajax man will join them in the summer on a free transfer as they prepare a three-year contract offer.
Vertonghen’s contract situation was seemingly affecting his ability to feature for the club in the early parts of the season as he started none of the first three league games (via Transfermarkt).
However, all seemed to have been sorted out with the Belgian starting six league games in a row before he was again benched in the 2-1 loss to Liverpool at the weekend.
Fans vented their frustration at the reports surrounding the 32-year-old, who isn’t getting any younger, as they took to Twitter to react with dismay to reports the club wants to extend his contract.
Here is a selection of tweets from the Spurs fans:
They should sell and sign Ake.

Good idea! Keep him until the summer & let him go for free. Why get some money for him in January when we can give him away? The same with Eriksen. That’s if anyone wants him after his miserable showing of late. Our transfer & contract dealings are a farce.

Seems to have lost a yard of pace, and he’s already 33.

Why? The dropoff from last season to this is staggering. Wouldn’t it be better to cut our losses and find another defender. I’d be sad to see Jan leave but if he isn’t going to be putting in 100% then let him go
