Georges-Kevin N’Koudou is thought to be on the verge of leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to a report in France.
L’Equipe are claiming the 24-year-old is closing in on a permanent move to Besiktas and it is thought the deal could be concluded imminently.
It is said an agreement has been reached in principle worth around €5m (£4.5m), although they do state that an exact figure is not quite known.
To say N’Koudou has been nothing but a disappointment, as harsh as it may sound, would not be too far from the truth. The winger has simply struggled to make an impact in north London and has continually been overlooked by Mauricio Pochettino.
Despite having been given an outing against Aston Villa in the opening match of the Premier League campaign (of just two minutes), the 24-year-old only managed to make just three appearances for Spurs last season before going to AS Monaco on loan (Transfermarkt).
Having signed for a reported £9m back in 2016 (BBC), N’Koudou has only played 27 times for Tottenham in those three years, scoring one goal and providing two assists – and has surely failed to justify the 40-day wait to complete his £35,000-a-week contract (Spotrac).
With the likes of Lucas Moura, Son Heung-min, Erik Lamela and Ryan Sessegnon all available to play in the same position as the Frenchman, N’Koudou’s place would have surely only fallen further down the pecking order at Spurs.
It would appear a transfer would be the best thing for everyone involved.
To be able to finally sell N’Koudou will have have to be considered good news for Tottenham and Pochettino this summer – even if they are only making back around half of the money they spent on him three years ago.
The 24-year-old clearly does not have much of a future at the club, especially with the abundance of options that they have available to them in his position, whilst being able to clear his £35,000-a-week wages off the bill will only be a positive.
