Tottenham fans here inside the Transfer Tavern have been having a few more than normal this week after the disappointment of transfer deadline day, and their failure to bring in many new signings this summer.
And more moans have been heard over by the bar today as the news was broken to them this by ESPN, of another transfer target they missed out on.
Bayern Munich midfielder Sebastian Rode himself has revealed, in an interview, that several clubs were after his signature this summer, one of which was Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs were looking to boost their central midfield options this summer after letting Etienne Capoue, Benjamin Stambouli and Paulinho all leave the club.
Rode, who made 35 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga champions last year was not even included in the match day squad for the first game of the season and only made his first appearance in the third match of the campaign.
This accompanied by the signing of Juventus central midfielder Aturo Vidal, it was suggested that Rode might be available at a cut price deal.
However, after reassurance from Bayern that he has a future at the club he says he elected to stay and fight for his place – hence turning down Tottenham’s advances to bring him to the Premier League.
Rode who has a wealth of experience for a player of only 24 years of age would have added real quality, along with a winning mentality and understanding of the game at a high level to the Tottenham midfield – and our Spurs supporting punters are actually quite gutted about this!
