According to recent reports, Jose Mourinho is hopeful of being reunited with Real Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos at Tottenham Hotspur.
The report by the Evening Standard claims that Mourinho is ‘keeping an eye’ on Ramos’ contract situation at Madrid, with the defender’s current deal set to expire at the end of the season and, as of yet, Zinedine Zidane’s side have not agreed an extension with the 34-year-old.
So far this season, the £12.6 million-rated Spain international has highly impressed over his 12 La Liga appearances, scoring two goals and averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.06 – ranking him as the club’s sixth-best performer in the Spanish top flight.
However, with the centre-back free to talk to clubs regarding a move away from Madrid as of January 1st, it appears that Mourinho, whom Ramos played 137 games under at Madrid, could be keen on linking back up with the defender who has been dubbed ‘the best in history‘.

Transfer Tavern Take
Considering the fact that Tottenham were heavily linked with a move for Milan Skriniar in the summer transfer window, a deal that the club eventually failed to get over the line, it would not be surprising to see Spurs back in the market for a centre-back once again this January.
However, because of the fact that the 34-year-old Ramos is getting towards the end of his career, perhaps it would be a more sensible approach by Tottenham to make a move for a defender who has age slightly more on their side.
