The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern have been calling for some new signings in the January transfer window to add strength in depth to the squad and help them push on to reach the next level.
According to an exclusive report by The Sunday Express, two forgotten Englishmen are on Mauricio Pochettino’s radar this winter as he aims to reignite their careers.
With the future of Danny Rose remaining uncertain, Pochettino is now scouring the market for potential new additions at left back.
He is preparing for Rose’s departure and wants someone to come in and compete with Ben Davies in that department.
According to this report, Luke Shaw is a major target for Spurs.
The 22-year-old is out of favour under Jose Mourinho and Manchester United are plotting a raid on Fulham for Spurs target Ryan Sessegnon.
With the possibility of signing Sessegnon slipping away, the North London side are now turning their attention towards former Southampton full back Shaw to answer their problems at left back.
Meanwhile, Everton midfielder Ross Barkley is also a target for Pochettino’s men.
The 24-year-old has been out all season with an injury and was a target for both Chelsea and Spurs in the summer.
With West Ham and Arsenal also lurking, Spurs will have to move quickly to sign Barkley, who is out of contract in the summer.
These could be two shrewd moves by Spurs because they are both still young players and now they both have a point to prove.
Barkley, who will be fit by January, has natural flair and talent which Pochettino could harness.
Shaw, on the other hand, needs game time to rediscover his confidence and get his career back on track.
With Manchester United keen to offload Shaw and Everton willing to part ways with Barkley to avoid losing him on a free, Tottenham could swoop with two bargain deals here.
