The Athletic’s David Ornstein has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are in talks over a move for 22-year-old winger Nicolas Gonzalez.
The journalist wrote a recent article for The Athletic in which he discussed some of the latest Premier League transfer news.
In that report, Ornstein claimed that ‘recent discussions have taken place with Tottenham’ regarding a potential move for the Stuttgart man.
Tottenham Hotspur will face compeititon.
Ornstein indicated that Spurs aren’t alone in their pursuit of the winger though, as Italian giants Juventus are also said to be in discussions over signing Gonzalez, who has been described as a player who “wants to win at all costs” by Stuttgart manager Pellegrino Matarazzo, per Stuttgarter Nachrichten, via 90min.
Additionally, on Twitter, Ornstein clarified that the north London club and Juve are ‘among clubs in early talks’ for the player, indicating that other teams may also be discussing a move for the £14.4m-rated Argentina international.
Would Gonzalez be a good signing for Spurs?
It certainly doesn’t come as a surprise that Gonzalez is attracting so much attention, as he has been enjoying a positive season in the Bundesliga.
Gonzalez is currently Stuttgart’s joint-second-highest league goalscorer, bagging five in his first 10 games of the 2020/21 campaign, per Transfermarkt.
With Gonzalez described as a very strong dribbler by WhoScored – and with creating chances via individual skill said to be a key element of Tottenham’s playing style, perhaps he would be a good fit for Jose Mourinho’s side.
Should Spurs sign Gonzalez?
Ornstein suggested that a Spurs move for the winger will depend on ‘potential departures’ from the north London club, so it will be interesting to see if talk of a move to Tottenham for Gonzalez heats up if the Lilywhites sell some players.
