Tottenham Hotspur are thought to have sent scouts to watch Vedat Muriqi in action for Kosovo, according to a report by Sabah.
The 25-year-old has only just moved to Fenerbahce this summer, having joined from Caykur Rizespor in a deal thought to have been €3.5m (£3.1m) and it is believed a ‘giant’ offer would be needed to sign him from the Istanbul outfit, although that has not stopped a number of high profile clubs from taking a look at him.
The likes of Napoli, Fiorentina and SS Lazio are all thought to have had a keen eye on Muriqi as well and would have likely been pleased to have seen him score the opener in Kosovo’s 2-1 win against the Czech Republic.
Muriqi has been in excellent form for Fenerbahce this season, so it may not be a surprise to hear that a number of Europe’s top clubs are watching his performances with an interest at the moment.
The Kosovan has been a mainstay for the Istanbul giants in the Turkish Super Lig so far, having played every single minute in his three appearances to date (WhoScored). In those matches, he has managed to score two goals and averages an impressive five shots per match, whilst also registering 1.3 key passes every 90 minutes.
Having seen Fernando Llorente depart this summer, Tottenham are, arguably, in need of a centre-forward as they only have Harry Kane available to them as a more-established option (Transfermarkt).
Although the Kosovo international may have to work on his offside awareness (WhoScored note it as a particular weakness of his), his finishing and aerial ability are considered strong strengths of his, which would also appear to make him a good fit for the aforementioned formation.
Tottenham would be doing the right thing by looking at their attacking options ahead of the January transfer window as there is an argument that Pochettino could do with bolstering that department within his squad. Outside of Kane, there are no experienced natural options in a similar mould.
Muriqi looks to be a quality player and one that, perhaps, can still continue to improve with time. Indeed, on paper, he would appear to be an individual that could potentially fit into the north London outfit without any real trouble.
Tottenham may be able to get a closer look at the forward in action on Tuesday when Kosovo take on England in their 2020 European Championship qualifier at the St. Mary’s Stadium.
However, with Fenerbahce reportedly likely to command a ‘giant’ figure for him and alleged interest from Italy, whether the 25-year-old would be prepared to come to Spurs remains to be seen.
