The Daily Mail have worried Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The publication have claimed that Tim Sherwood has cast major doubt over the future of Erik Lamela, who despite being a record buy for the club, has only managed to make three first team starts this term.
The attacking player has been out with injury and has failed to convince the media or fans he is worth the money the Lilywhites shelled out for him. As one of our punters notes, it also seems that he has failed to convince his manager as well.
Sherwood was asked about rumours he was being instructed by the Spurs board to play Lamela and claimed: “You know what, I haven’t seen enough of him,’ he said. “He’s never been fit.
“I think he was fit for about three weeks while I was in charge, and then he’s been out injured.
“That’s still an unknown quantity as far as I’m concerned. I’ve assessed the rest of the squad and I’ve got my ideas on who’s capable and probably who’s not, and Erik the jury’s still out on him because I haven’t seen enough of him so he’s been very unfortunate.”
As our regulars note over a pint, that is disturbing at best, with £30 million a huge amount of money for the second club in North London.
Is Lamela’s Spurs future quite simply over before it ever really got going? Let us know your thoughts below.
