During Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 victory over Man City in north London, a ‘problem for Spurs’ has emerged in the form of Toby Alderweireld going down with a potential groin injury.
Heung-min Son and Giovani Lo Celso scored in each half as Tottenham managed to stay resolute against a relentless City side – with Harry Kane grabbing Man of the Match after a terrific display.
However, during an incredible performance from the Lilywhites, Belgian centre-back Alderweireld went down clutching his groin – dealing a potential ‘blow‘ for Jose Mourinho as he potentially loses a defensive option ahead of their Europa League encounter on Thursday.
Journalist Dan Kilpatrick described it as a ‘problem for Spurs‘, especially considering Mourinho apparently has little faith in Davinson Sanchez who has been left out of the last few match day squads.
Midfielder Eric Dier has been utilised to full effect in the centre-back position, but usual centre-back partner Alderweireld now faces a potentially devastating absence if the injury is serious.

This could come as a big blow for Spurs, especially after a resolute win, but one plus side could be the introduction of summer signing Joe Rodon.
The Welshman made a brief cameo against the Sky Blues, but if Alderweireld’s injury becomes serious, Spurs supporters may be seeing more of Rodon in future fixtures.
Whether or not this will positively or negatively impact Tottenham remains to be seen, but it does present Mourinho with something to think about.
After a solid performance against City Lilywhites will be keeping a watchful eye on this development.
