Interesting news in the Mirror regarding Andros Townsend has got punters discussing the winger’s potential future, here in the Transfer Tavern.
Reports claim the England player fears he may need to leave the London club, in order to secure his place in the England squad for the European Championships next summer.
Townsend has been a regular in the England squads of late with him being a real favourite with manager Roy Hodgson. He has provided some impressive outings for England, scoring 3 goals in 9 apperances for his national side – performances which he hasn’t quite replicated for his club.
It is also claimed that Tottenham attempted to use Townsend in a player plus cash deal with West Bromwich Albion, in their pursuit for Saido Berahino, with it clear Spurs are prepared to offload him.
The Baggies were keen on Townsend while Aston Villa, Sunderland and Leicester also enquired about him during the summer. But with Tottenham reportedly holding out for a fee of £15m, a move failed to materialise and he will stay at White Hart Lane until January at least.
