Tottenham ‘huge admirers’ of 21-year-old midfield ace, could make summer move

Tottenham supporters have been pretty buoyant in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side get their quest for a first FA Cup crown since 1991 underway with a comfortable 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon last time out.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have not picked up a piece of silverware since winning the 2008 League Cup, which means they are enduring a longer trophy drought than North London rivals Arsenal did in their infamous barren spell between 2005 and 2014. Yet Spurs got their FA Cup campaign off to a perfect start on Sunday as a brace from Harry Kane as well as Jan Vertonghen’s first goal since 2013 was enough to see off Neal Ardley’s Dons, booking Pochettino’s side a place in the last 32 where they’ll meet League Two outfit Newport County.

Subsequently, there have been many upbeat Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are likely to be interested by a recent report from The Daily Mirror, which outlines their side’s interest in Norwich City youngster James Maddison.

The 21-year-old came up through the ranks at Coventry City before making the move to Carrow Road back in 2016, where he then embarked on loan spells first back to Coventry and then Aberdeen before breaking into Daniel Farke’s Canaries first team this season.

And no wonder as the midfielder has scored seven goals and laid on eight assists in 28 appearances in all competitions this term, excellent form which has reportedly attracted the attention of Pochettino’s Tottenham, and indeed Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, ahead of a possible move this summer.

Yet based on the meteoric rise of Dele Alli since his move to Spurs, Pochettino’s men may fancy their chances of landing the England Under-21 international come the summer.

Landlord’s verdict: James Maddison only featured five times for Norwich City prior to the start of this season, now he is being linked with a move to Tottenham and Liverpool.

And that’s because the 21-year-old midfielder has been in sparkling form for the Canaries this term with seven goals and eight assists in 28 appearances, helping Daniel Farke’s men to 13th place in the Championship.

And Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs, as well as Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, are reportedly keeping tabs on the England Under-21 ace ahead of a possible summer move, a move which on the surface has potential similarities with that of Dele Alli’s, who of course has gone to have great success at Tottenham.

Only time will tell though whether Pochettino’s men are indeed able to land Maddison this summer.
