The Christmas party fever has reached the Football Transfer Tavern and all the punters in the bar join in with a rousing rendition of the Pogues classic ‘Fairytale of New York’,
One of those involved in the festive cheer in the bar is The Express journalist Nick Lustig who also has news about another possible Tottenham target.
He suggests that Roma star Marco Borriello’s agent has confirmed that the White Hart Lane club are in talks to bring the striker to North London.
Despite not having a manager, Tottenham are still seeking potential January signings with a new striker thought to be one of the main priorities.
Our resident Serie A expert is currently in the bar and he explains that the 31-year-old forward has only found the net once in league this season which could see Rudi Garcia letting him leave in January.
Of course, it is well known that the two clubs have strong relations after technical director Franco Baldini made the switch to Tottenham from Roma in the summer. That saw Erik Lamela arriving at White Hart Lane in a club record deal during the last transfer window and now Spurs could be ready to move again for yet another Roma star.
Carlo Cavalieri, Borriello’s agent, says that his client needs to get more playing time – a situation he’s unlikely to find at his current club with other players ahead of him in the pecking order.
“Marco is very happy in Rome and with Roma, but clearly the recovery of Francesco Totti and Mattia Destro from injury is reducing his space and he’d like to play more,” he said.
“His profile is very much appreciated in England, as they are looking for players like this.
“Being here in London I had the chance to talk to various clubs. Tottenham? Yes, they were among them.
“For the moment he is happy at Roma, then we’ll see what happens over the next few days.”
