Mauricio Pochettino truly has a knack of working with youngsters at Tottenham Hotspur and getting the best out of them, doesn’t he? You just have to look at the likes of Harry Winks, Dele Alli and Harry Kane to see the magic that the Argentine boss can do with the talent at his disposal.
And, with those results, it would not come as a surprise if a number of the game’s youngsters wanted to work with him in the future to try and develop their own ability further.
However, one teenage prospect that Pochettino and Spurs appear to have their eyes on has not gone unnoticed and it would seem that the club could have a rather huge battle on their hands to try and land him.
What’s the News?
According to a report by TeamTALK, a number of clubs are understood to be interested in Luca Murphy, who has recently become a free agent.
The defender, who is highly-rated by many, has left Hartlepool United by mutual consent, which has led to a frenzy of clubs to battle it out for him.
Tottenham will have the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle United, Leicester City, Cardiff City and Wolverhampton Wanderers just from the Premier League to compete with, whilst the likes of Leeds United, Sheffield United, Sunderland, Barnsley, Brentford and Middlesborough are also said to be keen on the 17-year-old.
Murphy is clearly a talented centre-back and one that would certainly appear to have a really bright future ahead of him considering the stature of the clubs alleged to be interested in him following his departure from Hartlepool.
Tottenham, however, could be an excellent destination for the player to choose though because of obvious reasons.
As mentioned, Pochettino has the ability to get the very best out of young players and could help the teenager take his game to the next level, as he has proven with the prospects he has had at the club previously.
Murphy could also make an impact in the first-team within a few years if he turns out into the player many expect he can be as Spurs already have an ageing backline with the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, whilst the latter of the pair’s future at the club still remains uncertain.
However, there would also be an argument that Tottenham already have some excellent centre-back options available to them, with Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez likely to have a prominent future in the backline in the not too distant future.
Tottenham fans, should the club look to land Murphy? Or do you think bringing him to Spurs would not be worthwhile? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
