Tottenham ‘insiders’ reportedly believe they know why Chelsea deal collapsed – Report

Everton midfielder Ross Barkley will look back on the past twelve months with great disappointment, with 2017 a year of setbacks for the promising England international.

Toffees fan here in The Transfer Tavern had grown bored of hearing constant speculation linking the player with a move to Chelsea, with fans often groaning to our landlord over a late night pint that they wish the situation could be resolved sooner rather than later. A move to the capital never materialised, and fans were left hanging by the club, who could realistically still sell the player this month due to his contract expiring in the summer.

Manager Sam Allardyce will surely wish to acquire a fee for the player, but reports today from Bleacher Report have suggested that Tottenham ‘insiders’ believe a deal to Antonio Conte’s side broke down due to the player’s desire to move to Spurs to play under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The revelation surprised Everton fans at The Tavern who had believed the academy graduate was on his way to Stamford Bridge, but reports suggest a move to Spurs is more likely.

Landlord’s Verdict

This Ross Barkley saga needs to come to an end soon, because it has dragged on far longer than it should have. The player and club must make their mind up about a January move or a summer switch, to end speculation and provide clarity to their own fans.

Our Toffees contingent have accepted the fact that Barkley is on his way out, and would rather receive a fee now for the player than to lose him for nothing in the summer. If an offer in the region of £15-£20 million comes in in the coming weeks, then Allardyce should bite the bidders hand off to offload the underperforming man.

Everton fans, should Barkley be offloaded this month? Let us know!
