Tottenham: Josko Gvardiol unlikely to choose Spurs switch - Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Josko Gvardiol is unlikely to opt for a move to the Lilywhites over their London rivals and fellow suitors Chelsea, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Having reportedly struck a pre-contract agreement with the Croatian’s RB Leipzig team-mate Christopher Nkunku, it’s fair to say that the Blues’ co-owner Todd Boehly holds the edge in this transfer pursuit, having already negotiated with the Bundesliga club.

The proposed double raid on Leipzig could allow them to sell both players at a higher price, with Chelsea having shown their cards over the summer in terms of financial prowess, spending more in the transfer window than any other Premier League club.

Whilst interest from Spurs could complicate matters, with the Lilywhites having scouted the starlet, it may not be enough to turn Gvardiol’s head.

With both London clubs in for the RB Leipzig defender, Jones has claimed that it is more likely that the Croatia international opts to join Graham Potter’s side if the 20-year-old is to leave Leipzig for the Premier League.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “They might be looking into it, but I’m told it’s unlikely he would choose Spurs over Chelsea, even if they did begin to look at it as a possibility of happening.”

With Chelsea looking as though they have sealed a deal for Nkunku, the Blues seem in greater stead to strike a move for Gvardiol in what would make for an efficient raid of the Red Bull-owned outfit.

RB Leipzig have struggled this season, which has already seen them make a managerial change, sacking Dominic Tedesco in favour of Marco Rose, but it has not affected Gvardiol’s personal performances in the slightest.

The young Croatian has asserted himself as an astute and progressive ball-playing defender, averaging 76.9 accurate passes and 5.2 accurate long balls per 90.

It’s no surprise then that Tottenham would be interested in him, but given Chelsea’s already established relationship with Leipzig in terms of transfer negotiations amidst the Nkunku deal, it looks as though the Blues are in better stead to land the 20-year-old, in what would comes as a blow for Antonio Conte and co.
