The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern were expecting a quiet Deadline Day…
Mauricio Pochettino claimed yesterday that Tottenham would only make a move for a ‘special player’ – and it would appear as though the Argentine may have found him.
According to the Sun, Tottenham are monitoring the situation surrounding Jay Rodriguez – with the English forward set for showdown talks on his future today.
This report has delighted the Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern, with the prospect of increasing the crop of English players at White Hart Lane an attractive one for the punters in the pub.
Jay Rodriguez has struggled with injury and a lack of game time over the past few years, but the quality that he possesses is clear for all to see.
The 2013/14 season was, undoubtedly, his most prolific campaign – with the forward scoring 15 goals in just 30 Premier League starts – but he has yet to reach those heights since.
Given a limited role under Claude Puel this season, Rodriguez has featured just 6 times from the start – though he has scored an impressive 4 goals in that time.
Tottenham have a fairly strong forward line, so Rodriguez is unlikely to be a regular feature under Pochettino – but the prospect of partnering Harry Kane could be enough to turn the head of the forward.
