The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern have been delighted with the form of Ben Davies this season since he cemented his place in the first-team ahead of Danny Rose.
Danny Rose’s career has taken something of a nosedive since he publicly criticised his own club’s wage structure and perceived lack of ambition in the transfer market last summer. The England international was injured at the time of his unprofessional comments, but since his return to first-team football he has struggled to win his place back ahead of the consistent Davies.
His lack of involvement has provoked plenty of supporters to believe his time in North-London is approaching its natural conclusion, and recent reports from The Sun have served to intensify that feeling. According to the report, Tottenham are interested in signing Celtic’s Kieran Tierney (valued at £4.5 million by Transfermarkt) this summer, although they face competition from Bournemouth and Manchester United for his signature.
Celtic’s academy product is slowly beginning to become a star of Scottish football with his quality displays at left-back which have been characterised by a tenacious attitude and burning passion for the Bhoys, so it’s no surprise that Premier League clubs are beginning to circle and express an interest in his services. At 20-years-old, Tierney appears to have an immensely bright future ahead of him in European football, and a move to Tottenham could be the best thing for his development at this stage.
With Tottenham’s move into the new stadium on the imminent horizon, there’s no doubt that Pochettino may be forced to balance the books this summer under Daniel Levy’s supervision. Replacing Rose with Tierney would not only remove a potential threat to the harmony within Tottenham’s dressing room, but it would also improve the club’s financial situation ahead of the stadium move.
Danny Rose’s future looks destined to be played away from Spurs this summer, and the arrival of Tierney would certainly force him out of the exit door if Pochettino is successful in his pursuit of the rising Scottish star.
