Well, that defeat against Liverpool has certainly thrown the cat amongst the pigeons for Tottenham Hotspur, hasn’t it? With just seven games of the Premier League remaining, Spurs will certainly have an anxious few weeks on their hands.
Mauricio Pochettino will need to improve his squad in the summer, regardless of where they finish, and defence is certainly an area that needs immediate attention.
What’s the News?
According to a report by Football Insider, Michael Keane is being linked with a move to Tottenham.
The Everton defender has been impressive with his performances this season for the Toffees and Spurs are understood to have been tracking him in recent weeks.
It is claimed Tottenham could be prepared to make an offer in the region of £50million to try and tempt the Goodison Park outfit into selling him.
Keane has come on leaps and bounds in recent months with his performances and the 26-year-old would certainly fit the profile of players that Pochettino looks to try and sign. The Argentine could continue to help guide and develop the England international and help take him to the next stage of his career.
With Toby Alderweireld’s future at the club certainly unclear, a marquee replacement will be needed and Keane could be the man to help them forget about the Belgium international.
The defender, who would also please the home-grown quota, has helped to keep 29 clean sheets in his 115 Premier League appearances for both Burnley and Everton.
His ability to play out from the back is also something that makes him a rather attractive proposition, whilst his aerial presence in the opposition area (as well as his own) is something Tottenham could look to capitalise on.
Although a move for Keane could work wonders for Tottenham and their defence, it is difficult to see Everton letting him go, especially considering that their own backline is not the best at the moment and with the idea of a £50m transfer fee potentially needed, whether Daniel Levy splashes that amount of money on one player remains to be seen.
Tottenham fans, can you see Levy spending £50m on Keane to bring him to the club? Do you think Keane is the man to replace Alderweireld? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
