The latest reports from Mail Online have caused a wave of excitement in the Football Transfer Tavern as the newspaper suggests that Tottenham are lining up a surprise move for Juventus playmaker Andrea Pirlo.
The news comes from a claim by former Chelsea manager Gianluca Vialli who told Sky Italia that he had heard reports of Spurs’ intrest during Juve’s 3-2 win over AC Milan.
Vialli was quizzed about the 34-year old’s contract stand off with the Serie A champions, and said: “I heard the rumours from London that there are contacts between Pirlo and Tottenham for next season.”
Rumours in the tavern have already indicated that Pirlo could depart Juve this summer with uncertainty growing about the possibility of a new contract as Bianconeri coach Antonio Conte assesses whether he deserves an extension to his current deal.
A decision will be made about his future in the New Year, and if they decided against keeping him at the club, he would look for a fresh start abroad with a spell in the Premier League a major option.
Spurs now look to be exploring the chances of landing him on a free transfer at the end of the season – a claim intensified with the latest from Vialli who seems to have his ear close to the ground in Italy.
The 34-year-old majestic midfielder may see his next club as his final one and therefore it would be the last chance that punters in the tavern would have to see him gracing the Premier League.
