Here in the Football Transfer Tavern there was some surprise in the summer when Tottenham Hotspur forward Clint Demsey decided to return to America with the Seattle Sounders after six years in England.
Now Mirror Football suggests that the United States’ captain could make his way back across the Atlantic if he can secure a short-term loan switch in January with Spurs, Fulham and Everton all interested.
The 30-year-old left White Hart Lane to join the Sounders as he looked for regular football in a World Cup year but with the Lilywhites reportedly holding a first option on the attacker, he could make a quick return to Andre Villas-Boas’ side.
However as one punter in the bar points out, Dempsey is likely to join the club where he thinks that he can gain the most playing time and perhaps a return to Spurs would limited his opportunities.
Other options include a return to Craven Cottage while Everton, who have previous with short-term loans from the MLS, are also thought to be interested in securing Dempsey’s services during January.
Dempsey is likely to be available from January until mid-March when the MLS season starts again.
Surely Dempsey wouldn’t return to Spurs so soon. Is a move to Fulham or Everton more realistic? Let us know your thoughts below.
