Tottenham Hotspur are not ready to give up on bringing a talented player to the Premier League once the January transfer window opens.
According to a report by Mundo Deportivo in Spain, Ajax’s Frenkie de Jong remains on their wish list, despite it being claimed the club has already agreed to a deal to join La Liga giants Barcelona next year.
The media outlet have stated that the 21-year-old is thought to have provisionally agreed to join up with the Camp Nou outfit, however, Spurs are preparing to make an audacious hijack attempt to lure him to north London.
Mauricio Pochettino is thought to be keen to add to his squad in the winter, after failing to make additions in the summer, and De Jong is thought to be high on his list of targets.
It is believed that Tottenham are keen on making a move for him in January, although the player himself wants to remain in the Eredivisie until the end of the season.
Spurs will face huge competition to try and sign him, with Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City all credited with an interest in the talented star.
The 21-year-old is a hugely talented and gifted midfielder that has attracted a host of Europe’s top clubs with his performances for Ajax. Valued at just £6.3million by Transfermarkt, he is expected to cost a whole lot more than that to prise him away from Amsterdam.
The Dutchman, who has been called up to his country’s senior side for the first time, has been impressive and could do a job for Spurs in the middle of the field next season, whilst there are doubts over the futures with the likes of Moussa Dembele and Victor Wanyama remaining unclear.
With the report claiming that Barcelona have already got a provisional “yes” for a deal, Mundo Deportivo have been known to make some outlandish claims and Tottenham could still have the chance to hijack a move for De Jong.
