The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern were brought back down to earth with a crashing thud on Wednesday evening. It has been a very good few weeks for the Lilywhites, with great performances coming against the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool, showing just how far Mauricio Pochettino’s men have come over the last few years. However, West Ham came to town on Wednesday night, and a spirited performance from the Hammers left the Lilywhites crashing out of the Carabao Cup with a 3-2 loss at Wembley. It was a very poor showing from the club, leaving the fans in the pub feeling disappointed. Fortunately, a recent report from Sky Sports is likely to give Tottenham fans something to smile about.
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham are looking to replicate their recent transfer success by looking towards Ajax as part of a major scouting mission – with the Lilywhites currently looking at a number of players from the Dutch outfit. The duo of Justin Kluivert and Donny van de Beek are the players mentioned by name in the report, though Spurs are said to be looking at the club extensively. As Sky Sports mention, recent signings like Davinson Sanchez and Christian Eriksen have moved to London and had great success, and so it’s no real surprise that Mauricio Pochettino wants more of the same.
Tottenham have always placed a focus on young signings under Pochettino, and that’s clearly a theme that he’s looking to continue. Justin Kluivert, son of Patrick Kluivert, is just 18-years-old, whilst Donny van de Beek is 20-years-old. They’re clearly players for the future, but that hasn’t stopped Pochettino from utilising players of that age in recent years. Dele Alli, Harry Winks, Harry Kane, the list goes on and on. Any signings remain some way off, but Tottenham are clearly working hard.
Ajax have found it difficult to resist some of Europe’s bigger clubs in recent years when it comes to major sales, with Tottenham signing Davinson Sanchez just this past summer.
The Netherlands has proven to be fruitful ground for Tottenham, and so a return to familiar territory certainly makes sense. It’s a plan that our resident Lilywhites can certainly get behind.
