The Daily Mail seems to be the talk of the Football Transfer Tavern today, and their latest claim aimed at Tottenham Hotspur fans does not change that very much.
The publication notes that Tim Sherwood has made it a priority to target British based players this summer after more than £100 million was spent last summer on foreign recruits, most of whom did not really understand or fit into the demands of the English Premier League.
Former manager Andre Villas-Boas oversaw the departure of star man Gareth Bale, and with that money brought in the likes of Nacer Chadli and Roberto Soldado amongst others, and saw those players become the demise of him.
Now manager Tim Sherwood is determined to make sure the same does not happen to him – and is set on bringing in players who are already familiar with the demands of life in the top flight of English football.
As our landlord and punters note over a pint at the bar, Sherwood is not exactly secure at White Hart Lane, and come the summer, there may well be a new manager in charge altogether, and that could well be one who is keen on buying the finest players around Europe.
