There is growing excitement in the Football Transfer Tavern as it claimed by The Express that Tottenham are considering a bid for 19-year-old Brazilian teenager Neilton.
The news comes after the player’s representative confirmed that recent contract negotiations had stalled with Santos.
The promising winger’s contract is set to expire in the summer and after his client turned down a new deal at the start of October, his agent Roberto de Almeida has now revealed that the two parties still have some way to go to reach an agreement.
According to Brazilian reports, Santos offered a deal worth £7,000-a-month with Neilton looking for around £20,000-a-month and this uncertainty over his future has brought about interest from a number of top European clubs.
Tottenham are one of the many clubs who are interested in Neilton, who has been dubbed the new Neymar, and the Lilywhites reportedly saw a £7 million bid rejected for the Brazil starlet during the summer.
Andre Villas-Boas could now be ready to seal a deal for the midfielder by securing a pre-contract agreement that would see him moving to White Hart Lane on a free transfer at the end of the season.
However despite the European interest, Neílton has insisted that he wants to stay at Santos.
“I want to stay. We are negotiating. I am not involved in the talks, but I intend to stay,” he said at a sponsor event in São Paulo.
The youngster has made 14 starts for Santos in the Brasileirão, scoring four goals and according to our Brazilian expert is a special talent that could light up the Premier League. Lets hope that Spurs could have some luck in their pursuit then!
