Tottenham man could be given a chance to leave the club in January – report

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern have been disappointed with the speed in which Mousa Dembele has fallen in significance at Spurs. He suffered an injury last year, which led to the emergence of Harry Winks, and he’s found it tough to force his way back into the starting eleven of the side on a regular basis.

He’s made 9 starts in the league this season, which is decent,¬†but given how impressive the likes of Harry Winks, Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama have been this season, it seems as though the only way is down for the Belgian – particularly given that he was a weekly starter just a year ago.

An interesting proposition could rise in January, then. According to¬†Corriere Dello Sport, AC Milan hold an interest in the midfielder as they look to bulk out their options in midfield. The report describes him as ‘no longer being in Pochettino’s graces’, with the Italian side perhaps looking to capitalise on his slight fall from grace.

They’d certainly be getting a top player in Dembele, and his relative lack of action this term has been due in large part to the fine form of his teammates, rather than his own lack thereof. He offers fantastic passing, dribbling and ball retention, and those are traits that cannot be undervalued.

He certainly still has a role to play at Tottenham, but if he wants to start every week, a move away might make sense for him.

Landlord’s Verdict

Dembele has a lot to offer, but it’s clear that he is on his way out of Tottenham.

Whether he leaves in January, in the summer or, indeed, next year, it’s only a matter of time. Harry Winks has emerged as the perfect successor to the reliable Belgian.

That being said, whether he wants to stay and fight for his place or move on remains to be seen.
