Tottenham’s title hopes were severely dented thanks to a shock 2-1 defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor.

Mauricio Pochettino welcomed Harry Kane back into the starting XI for the first time since defeat to Manchester United but it was the Clarets that took the lead. After keeping the England captain quiet, it was Chris Wood who opened the scoring before Kane finally emerged to draw his side level. However, a late strike from Ashley Barnes secured a massive victory for Sean Dyche and seemingly ended Spurs' chances of lifting the title.

It’s highly unlikely that Pochettino can catch the league leaders meaning focus should now shift to next season. After zero signings in the past two transfer windows, a squad overhaul could be in order when the summer transfer period begins. A marquee signing could be key to finally ending their wait for a trophy.

One man the Lilywhites should target is Fiorentina maestro – Federico Chiesa. Valued at £45m by Transfermarkt, the winger is a graduate of the club’s youth academy and has developed into a crucial first-team player. Chiesa is widely regarded as one of Europe’s hottest prospects after establishing himself as one of the top forwards in the Serie A.

The Italian has been in fine form in front of goal this season, scoring 10 goals in just 26 appearances during all competitions. As well as his goalscoring exploits, Chiesa has been a creative force for La Viola registering seven assists for his team-mates. Despite not being the quickest of forwards, the Italy international makes up for his lack of pace with brilliant technical ability.

As Pochettino has a reputation for developing youngsters – Chiesa would be a perfect signing for Tottenham. He's got all the makings of a top young player, and Pochettino could look to harness that ability with his brilliant man management.
