We thought there was very little chance of Tottenham securing a much needed striker before the transfer deadline which closes at 11pm tonight, however Laura Williamson from the Mail Online has just offered hope to Spurs fans sat around the bar with breaking news that a last ditch £16 million deal for Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao could still be possible.
Get the helicopters on standby at Spurs Lodge as this could go the wire with Tottenham facing a race against time to land the 23-year-old.
Any deal will be made increasingly difficult because around 30 per cent of the player’s rights are owned by a third party and not by current employers Internacional. According to Williamson, this had put Daniel Levy off a January transfer but instead the North London club have decided to act today.
Spurs desperately need a striker with just Jermain Defoe at the club, while Emmanuel Adebayor is still away at the African Cup of Nations due to Togo’s progress into the quarter-finals.
Internacional sporting director Luis Cesar Souto de Moura indicated to Brazilian media earlier today that the club are open to offers, saying: “Leandro Damiao will only leave if there is a very quick negotiation.
“The news involving interest for Leandro Damiao, especially from Tottenham, will always happen, they come and go.
“Damiao has a lot of quality, is a goalscorer, was the top scorer in the Olympics and he is a very important player. Internacional understand that it’s extremely difficult, very difficult, for Leandro Damiao to leave now.”
Although the transfer could be difficult to get through, it is not impossible and Spurs fans could get the striker they so desire.
